Record List : Best Bowling in an innings of a test match : All country

We cricket fans cheer batsmen more than bowlers, don't we? We all know about Brain Lara's 400, the most runs in an innings by a batter ever but do you know who holds the record for most wickets in a single test match?

Jim Laker, the English off spinner of yesteryear, holds the record = 19 wickets for just 90 runs (see second table below). the only wicket that Jim didn't get, was of Jim Burke, the Australian opener who was dismissed by Tony Lock. Jim Laker bowled 5 batsmen, trapped 3 Aussies leg before wicket, 1 was stumpped while remaining 11 were caught around the field.

Australians were dismissed in only 40.4 overs for 84 runs against Laker's inspired bowling in first innings. Visitors resisted better in second innings, batted out 150.2 overs for their 205 runs but this time, Laker got all 10 wickets, from his 51.2 overs for 53 runs.

England won the test match by an innings and 170 runs.

If you notice following two tables carefully, you'll find bowlers who have best bowling figures in an innings and in a test match for all other countries (India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Australia, England, West Indies and New Zealand). Two missing are Best bowling by a South African bowler in a test match, held by Makhaya Ntini for his 47.5-10-132-13 versus West Indies at Port of Spain on 8 April 2005. Best bowling by a Bangladesh bowler in a test match is by Enamul Haque Junior who grabbed 12 wickets against Zimbabwe at Dhaka back in January 2005.
